The
Asiwaju here is not referring to the ACN leader, Bola Tinubu. This
Asiwaju is the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe
(yes, he is the Asiwaju Obateru of Owu Kingdom).
He is from Edo State.
That his state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, belongs to the group of
governors that are in support of the Rotimi Amaechi’s chairmanship of
the crisis-ridden Nigeria Governors’ Forum as against the faction led by
Jonah Jang is not in doubt.
What became clear on Wednesday was that
the former Edo State deputy governor may have started moves to woo
Oshiomhole into Jang’s camp. Anyway, the Presidency has made it clear
that it is not supporting the faction.
Shortly after Amaechi left the venue of
the dinner, Asiwaju went to Oshiomhole where he was seated and engaged
him in a discussion for a few seconds. Holding the governor by hand, he
practically dragged him to where Jang was sitting. As he spoke to both
men, he repeatedly pointed at Jang in a manner that suggested,
“This is
the NGF chairman, support him to succeed.” Oshiomhole was noncommittal
in his countenance, necessitating the presidential aide to involve
Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, to join the conversation. I strained
my ears (or eavesdropped?) to hear what they were discussing for the
sake of my readers but regrettably, I did not succeed as loud music
blasted from the sound system in the hall.
