We Are Set To Immortalise Dagrin-----NET





As part of plans to immortalise  the name of late  Olaitan Olaonipekun popularly known as Da Grin, NET Newspapers Limited, publishers of Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET), has  announced the setting up of a memorial lecture in honor of the departed rapper.

 A statement by NET’s Publisher, Ayeni Adekunle disclosed that  part of the reasons for the memorial Lecture is basically to immortalise the name of the artiste.

Da Grin, according to the statement, died in a very tragic circumstances. “A young man who was full of life; who was very hardworking and very promising had his life cut short in such horrible manner. Could his death, just like that of CD John, Chidinma Mbalaso and many others have been prevented?’ Ayeni pondered.

The Memorial Lecture, scheduled to hold at Protea Hotels, in Ikeja GRA, at a yet-to-be-announced date, will feature speakers from all relevant industries: security and safety; media, health and medicine, governance, entertainment, communication, management and others.

‘We’re working on getting relevant people from the FRSC, Police Force, Nigerian Medical Association, and other bodies; including representatives from the musician’s union as well as the labels, to come educate us all on what we need to know on pertinent health, safety, living, investment and other issues, using the tragic end of Dagrin as a  case study.

An artiste with an enviable talent, Da Grin was reputed for rapping in his native Yoruba language and scantly in English Language. If  he had survived the auto-crash which eventually claimed his life on the 22nd  of April, 2010, Da Grin would have become one of the mega stars we have around today.

He connected with his fans on such a real level. His demise, which marked the end of an era for a shining star, left a vacuum that is yet to be filled by anyone. Before his death, Da’grin thrilled his fans with his club hit singles of his debut album, Dagrin C.E.O.

The album featured hit tracks such as, Kon doh, Jor oh, Moti gboro, Pon pon pon amongst others.Today, three years after his demise, fans are still paying tribute to  Da Grin. Recently his fans  gathered to remember this young dynamic artiste who took Yoruba rap to the next level. A whole crop of young and established artistes have towed his line yet, Dagrin’s sensational single Pon Pon Pon continues to remain ever green.
For the short time he had reigned, where even legends strive to; he created a style.
